The college was established in 1975, in cooperation with 15 authorities: regional and local councils, and municipalities. Its "raison d’être" is to enable residents of the south and Negev regions to acquire higher education and professional training according to their level, ability and needs; to enrich the cultural and educational activities of the region which is composed of small and far-flung localities; to strengthen the affinity ,residents and their children, feel for the region; to work towards absorbing immigrants and demobilized soldiers in the region and the country. The college’s development process is directly tied to the development of southern Israel. The college holds academic classes in conjunction with Ben-Gurion University in Beersheva. The college has been accredited by the Higher Education Council of Israel, granting it status as an independent academic institution in several areas.

“Yachdav Club” – A “Mifal Hapayis” Club for the Aged.
This is a “youth” club for the veteran population, whose objective is to develop services for the elderly and fulfill the saying, “to grow old with dignity and fun.” About 600 senior citizens (some of whom are parents of kibbutz members) enjoy a wide range of activities: exercise, workshops, lectures, concerts, seminars and outings.
We have many things planned for the future: opening classes for studying video/communications; workshops on social and health issues; employment projects; a choir; and more. Similarly, we are planning a nursing care center, in the center of which will be a hydrotherapy pool. We all hope that, in the near future, our center will be able to provide for many of the social, cultural and nursing care needs of the elderly population in Sha’ar Hanegev and its environments.

Regional Dance Studio
The regional dance studio teaches different styles of dance, according to the students’ level, age and purpose of study. Classical dance lessons are based on the curriculum of the Royal Academy in London, and are under its supervision. The studio teaches flamenco under the sponsorship of the Center for Flamenco in Tel Aviv.
Jazz dancing is also taught at the center. Recently, a two-year matriculation program in the dancing arts was opened in cooperation with the high school administration. Today there are already several graduates of the studio who are pursuing professional careers; many other students, who are fans of culture, art and dance, and seeking a way to fulfill their dreams.
In the future, we hope that Sha’ar Hanegev can establish a performance workshop to enable the studio’s graduates to fulfill their dreams here in the region.

The Association for the Promotion of Sports
The association exemplifies the principle of “promoting achievement-oriented sport” and maximum professionalization within the framework of available resources, while focusing on several branches: volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, swimming and athletics. The association conducts activities in cooperation with the school and the College of the Negev to promote a culture of sport among the young people in the region and western Negev. The school has a sports club which combines sports activities with education to inculcate a culture of sports as a way of life.

Regional Music Studio
Hundreds of students and teachers of the highest caliber (some of whom are new immigrants from the former Soviet Union), have enrolled at the music studio in a wide range of classes to study wind, string and plucked instruments. Similarly, the school has chamber groups and two orchestras for wind instruments: a youth orchestra and an adult orchestra.
The studio clearly sees its objective as building an infrastructure for creative musical activities in the localities, which will enable them to establish local musical ensembles. This type of activity will contribute to the community’s cultural life on holidays and at other events. In addition, regional musical groups are represented at almost all regional or national events, such as festivals and conventions.

The Community Psychology Service in Sha’ar Hanegev is responsible for providing social services to inhabitants residing in the localities under the council’s jurisdiction.
Similarly, this institution provides services for those living in more distant areas.
The unique feature of the center is its concentration of various professionals who can address the different needs of the area’s residents and communities. They can provide integrated solutions for a wide range of problems, while maintaining their connection with the changing reality within the region and with different age groups, all within a professional and multi-faceted perspective.
The center provides services for early childhood, child development, educational psychological services, clinical psychology services, and social welfare and community services.
