Youth Programs
SCOTT STONE
Scott Stone is a teen leadership program of San Diego Jewish Federation.
Students from San Diego, 10th grade, are coming to Israel in the summer for 5 weeks, in which they travel all over the country, receiving Jewish Identity Seminars, “Gadna”… etc… They are acompanied by 10 students from Sha’ar Hanegev during the all trip. Part of the ties between the two communities. They also visit Sha’ar Hanegev for two weekends. This year they will visit Israel from June 24th to July 18th.
The Sha’ar Hanegev group from 2003, are visiting their friends in San Diego at the end of August.
JITTLI
Juniors International Teen Leadership Institution
A program that started at 2000 – Designed to meet Jews (Sha’ar Hanegev, San Diego), and Muslim Palestinians (Segev Shalom and Gaza) at the 11th-12th grade, for a serious and continuing dialog. 10 paricipants from each community are chosen, and begin a program or different issues concerning the situation in the middle-east and their identity. In the summer they all meet for 3 weeks, for a trip in San Diego, Spain and Israel, in wich they meet the communities, talk about the History of the religions, the Golden age is spain, the conflicts etc… After the trip they continue visit each other and working with special projects for their communities. The program is sponsored by Jerry Ann and Gary Jacobs, now president of the united Jewish Federation of San Diego, whom personally participate in the program each year.
MARCH OF THE LIVING
A yearly program taking place in Poland every year, thousands of teens from all over the world are visiting the concentration and death camps in Poland, during Holocaust Memorial Day Period, some of them come to Israel afterwards.
34 students from San Diego will visit Sha’ar Hanegev during “Yom Hazikaron” (before Independence Day). They will receive home hospitality, tour our area, and participate in the ceremonies.
